Leadership Storm Lake Program

The Leadership Storm Lake Program started in 2014 was Mayor Jon Kruse's initiative to help develop new leaders within the Storm Lake community to serve on community boards, commissions, and volunteer positions as well as to start the development of new elected officials at all local levels of government.

The program centers on development of leaders through hands on education and involvement in local issues and various community organizations.  The program is lead by a Leadership Storm Lake Advisory Group who helps to plan and organize the program.  The Advisory Group and the program are a collaborative effort of the following groups:
  • Storm Lake School District
  • Our Place
  • Iowa State University Extension
  • Storm Lake United
  • City of Storm Lake
The program sessions cover a wide variety of topics including: Leadership, Local Government, Healthcare, Education, Economics, Public Safety, and Community Development.  The class is asked to develop a class project over the term of the course which typically runs in the fall of each year starting in August and wrapping up in December.  The class project is presented at the Leadership Storm Lake graduation ceremony at the end of the session.

To participate in the Leadership Storm Lake program Storm Lake residents are asked to complete an application and submit it to the City of Storm Lake prior to the deadline for the upcoming session.  Applications can be submitted at anytime prior to the deadline.  Applications submitted after the deadline will be held for the next session.

The deadline for the Spring 2016 Session is: February 19, 2016 at 5:00PM
