Invasive species are species of flora and fauna that were not originally grown in a place. These species were brought in, either intentionally or unintentionally, and have been found to out-compete the native species that are found in a place. This is usually because the invasive species has no natural predators or other factors in the area to limit their spread and growth. There are many invasive species throughout Iowa and the United States. We have a few listed on this website but for more information on different invasive species or more complete lists, please see the references at the bottom of this page.
