City Names Communications Coordinator

The City of Storm Lake announces the hiring of a new Communications Coordinator.

Longtime journalist Dana Larsen joins city staff, as Storm Lake leaders strive to enhance communication with the public and to raise awareness of the community around the state and beyond.

“I look forward to serving Storm Lake in a new way,” Larsen said. “The community has so much to offer, and in many ways can serve as a model for others. We will look to reflect the vibrant nature of Storm Lake and its growth opportunities, stressing transparency and integrity along the way.”

Larsen is an Iowa native, a Storm Lake area resident for 35 years, and former editor of the Storm Lake Pilot-Tribune. He has earned approximately 300 awards for writing, photography and design, including the Iowa Master Editor-Publisher award and many Iowa Master Columnist honors. He is a graduate of Iowa State University’s mass communications program.

The Communications Coordinator is a newly-created position for the city and stems from the need to increase our communicate to our residents, tourists, and businesses.

City Manager Navratil stated, “Traditional pieced together communication strategy has run its course and now needs to be reset to be successful.  An emerging theme with cities like Storm Lake is the need for a Communications Coordinator.  I look forward to Dana joining our City Team.”
