City-wide Cleanup event set for October 8, fees raise funds for UDMO

  The public may drop off unwanted items from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Public Services yard, 433 Vilas Road. The service is limited to items from residential properties within the Storm Lake city limits. There will be no curbside pickup.

  A fee of $5 per vehicle load will be charged, with all proceeds going to Upper Des Moines Opportunity to assist the needy in our community.

  Items that can be dropped off include furniture, push mowers, car batteries, grills, carpeting, glass and other bulky home items.

  An extra $5 handling fee per load will apply for appliances over five lbs. (including stoves, refrigerators, washers/dryers, dishwashers, air conditioners, water heaters or softeners, or microwaves. There will also be an extra $5 per load fee for TV’s or computer monitors.

  There will be a $2 per load fee for tires. Tires on rims , or semi truck/tractor tires cannot be accepted.

  The following are not allowed for disposal: yard waste, paint, propane tanks, household cleaners, hazardous materials or chemicals., junk vehicles or vehicle parts, oil or gasoline. No toilets, sinks, tubs or other ceramic or porcelain items can be accepted. No construction materials (including drywall, sheetrock, lumber or shingles) can be accepted for this event.
