The City of Storm Lake is urging residents for help in using water in a smart and conservative manner as water usage has significantly increased in the last few weeks.

On July 20, 2020, the City Council adopted Resolution No. 06-R2020-2021 implementing mandatory water conservation measures immediately.

Please note that watering of vegetable gardens is still allowed.  Being conscientious regarding water usage is key.  The City appreciates the help of the community in helping to reduce water usage during these warm, dry weather days.

The following water conservation measures are now in effect:

  • No lawn watering on Monday;  For both Residential and Business - Odd street address numbers water on Tuesday and Thursday with even street address numbers water on Sunday and Wednesday.  Watering should only occur between 5:00 AM to 9:00 AM.

  • Additionally, no washing of boats or vehicles in driveways and no power washing of houses.

  • Watering of flowers and plants is allowed anytime with a sprinkling can.

  • Exceptions will be allowed for new seedings and sod.  Also, an exception for watering the golf course greens as needed.

  • Golf course fairways can be watered from 2:00 AM to 6:00 AM.
