The Storm Lake Police Department provides 24-hour law enforcement services to the City of Storm Lake. The department consists of twenty sworn police officers, one civilian staff member, two volunteer chaplains, and a volunteer physician who serves as the tactical team medic assigned to the Tactical Entry Team. The department’s organizational structure includes a Police Chief, Assistant Chief, four Lieutenants, twelve Patrol Officers, and two Detectives.

The Police Department is located at 401 East Milwaukee Avenue in Storm Lake. The Patrol Division currently includes sixteen officers, with each shift supervised by a Lieutenant. The department also has one K-9 officer who assists Storm Lake and surrounding agencies with narcotics detection, suspect apprehension, evidence and subject searches, building searches, and crowd control.  

In addition to patrol services, the Storm Lake Police Department includes an Investigations Division, Administrative Division, Narcotics Unit, Hostage Negotiation Team, Drone Program, Clandestine Drug Lab Team, Search and Recovery Dive Team, Sexual Assault Response Team (SART), Bike Patrol Unit, and a Tactical Entry Team.
