Recycling in Storm Lake
You can recycle the following items in Storm Lake and Buena Vista County:- Glass - bottles and jars
- Paper - any kind of paper including colors, magazines, junk mail, newspapers as long as it tears they can recycle it
- Cardboard - Cardboard boxes are recyclable - please break them down to conserve space
- Plastics - plastic containers and cases are recyclable (toys are not)
Please rinse out all items prior to putting them out for collection. Recyclable items must be separated from garbage and placed in clear see through bags to be collected weekly through the collection company. You do NOT need to separate the different types of recyclables.
Other Types of Recycling
Along with the above there are other things that can be reused and recycled in Storm Lake including:Yard Debris - Tree limbs, branches, grass, and brush can all be recycled into mulch through the Harold Rawley Recycle Center. Residents must bring the yard waste to the recycle center during normal business hours - drop off of these items is free for Buena Vista County Residents.
Buena Vista County Recycling Center
Yard waste area is open during normal hours. Extended hours for yard waste are from April 1-October 31st (weather depending). Monday and Wednesday evenings from 4-7 pm and Saturday from 9 am-3 pm. Yard waste area will be closed on holidays. Observe the following holidays. If the holiday falls on Saturday we will be closed on the Friday before and if it falls on Sunday we will be closed the Monday after.
