Complaints

Sidewalk Complaints
Citizens who identify potential violations of the City's Sidewalk Policy may notify the City of the violation in writing (including by email). The complaint must include the following information:
  • Name, address, email address, and phone number of the person making the complaint
  • Address of the property where the deficiency was located
  • Specific information that will lead the City inspector to the correct location of the violation
  • Clearly identify the type of violation based on the City's inspection criteria (a copy of the violation criteria is available here)
  • Date when the violation was noticed

Complaint Handling Process
Complaints that are completely filled out will be reviewed by city staff and inspected within five (5) working days of receipt of the complaint.

If the inspector finds a violation during their inspection they will follow the standard process as outlined for those properties with a violation found during the normal routine inspection process with the following exception, if the violation is found after frost has started entering the ground the inspector will inspect the complaint and if a violation exists make note of it to add to the inspection for the following year.

the existence of frost in the ground can cause irregularities that will not be existent when the frost leaves.

Property owners that have violations found via the complaint process will have the same opportunities to make repairs prior to the city causing the work to be done and assessing the cost to the property owner.
