The SLPD annual report for 2024 was released today.
While calls for service increased for the first time since 2021 (33,481 calls in the past year), there is much positive data to be seen in the report.
* Both adult and juvenile arrests decreased significantly, and impaired driving arrests also decreased.
* Part I Uniform Crime Reporting Index crimes (which includes many of the most serious types of incidents), declined over 4% from the previous year.
* Drug arrests were at their lowest level since 2016. The clandestine lab team has not needed to deploy for seven straight years.
* Vehicle accidents declined for 2024, and accident injuries were at the lowest rate since 2020.
* Operation Clean Sweep, which handles nuisance property situations, saw a decrease in calls for the second straight year.
* Scam incidents declined from 83 in 2023 to 74 in 2024.
* The SLPD continued to expand its extensive number of public outreach events.
