Water Department

BUILDING - WATER PLANT

The Water Department is responsible for the maintenance and operation of the city’s drinking water production and distribution system. The Water department always maintains the water system by having on-call staff to always respond to water system emergencies 24/7/365.

The production system consists of 3 towers and 9 well sites: 4 Pleistocene wells, 1 Alluvial well, 3 Dakota wells, and 1 Jordan well. The system averages a daily production of 3.13 MGD.

The distribution system has 82.40 miles of pipe and includes over 3,900 service connections, close to 500 fire hydrants, over 4,000 water meters, over 1,000 main line valves, and backflow devices.

To ensure water quality and adequate supply, a complete SCADA system is used to monitor system parameters, such as pressure and motor run times. SCADA is in direct contact with Water Operators and lead staff 24 hours a day, sending out data in real time.
