This is the 41st anniversary for the National Night Out program, an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie. Storm Lake Police have been organizing the local events since 1990.
The relationships built through National Night Out make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live, and enhance a sense of community. The events are an opportunity to bring public safety people and neighbors together under positive circumstances.
The National Night Out movement has grown over the years to include more than 17,000 communities in all 50 states, U.S. territories and military bases worldwide. More than 38 million neighbors have taken part in the gatherings to date.
Block parties can range from the simplest lawn-chair gatherings to more elaborate cookouts or potlucks with children’s events.
Anyone who is interested in hosting a block party next year may contact Lt. Alyssa Solem at the Storm Lake Police Department.
