STORM LAKE, IOWA –
PUBLIC INVITED TO COMMUNITY MEETING TO HELP PLAN STORM LAKE’S FUTURE
A community meeting to begin discussing the future of Storm Lake will be held on Monday, January 9th from 6:00p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Sunrise Point Golf Course clubhouse, 1528 East Lakeshore Drive.
This is the first in a series of community workshops focusing on updating Storm Lake’s Comprehensive Plan. The planning process is just starting and no plans have been drawn or conclusions reached. The Comprehensive Plan is the blueprint for Storm Lake’s future and contains a community vision with goals, policies and strategies for reaching the vision. The Comprehensive Plan will cover a range of topics, including how additional residential and business growth should occur; how to improve the supply of housing; approaches for expanding parks, trails and open space; transportation improvements; future boundary expansions; and plans for public infrastructure investments and facilities.
Public participation in the development of the Comprehensive Plan is essential. Everyone who cares about the future of Storm Lake is encouraged to participate, including residents, students, business owners, employees and shoppers. The more that is learned from the community the better the plan becomes.
Workshop participants will be engaged in a process focused on answering key questions such as what are the critical issues facing the community and what should Storm Lake be like in 20 years. The community will begin to explore these and other questions through a series of individual and group activities designed to be fun and interesting.
More information about the planning process can be found on the project website: www.stormlakecompplan.com.
