The “Bag It, Pitch It, Protect It” campaign for 2024 notes that pet waste contains harmful bacteria and nutrients that can pollute water bodies such as the lake. Plus, sharing our public spaces means doing your part to keep Storm Lake parks, trails, beaches and playgrounds pleasant for the next visitor to enjoy.

The City does its part for the environment by offering numerous pet clean up stations around the community with free bags for pet owners to use in clean-up. The City provides 20,000-24,000 bags per year. Here are the locations for Storm Lake pet stations:

  • Sunrise Park  - two stations
  • Awaysis Park – one station
  • Chautauqua Park/Lakeshore Drive Beach -  1 station
  • Chautauqua Park – 2 stations
  • Sunset Park – 2 stations
  • Circle Park – 1 station
  • Scout Park – 1 station
  • Frank Starr Park – 3 stations
  • Seneca Park – 1 station

Storm Lake parks and public spaces are there for everyone to use, and pets on leash are welcome. Be kind to the community and “Take the Pledge,” to clean up after your pet. To be part of the statewide “Bag It, Pitch It, Protect It” campaign, send a photo of your pet to ntruesdell@iowastormwater.org.
