[ARCHIVED] Storm Lake Municipal Band begins concert series

Muni Band Season

The band consists of volunteer musicians of all ages who share a love for performing. The band offers an eclectic mix of music from traditional marches and classical works to modern pop and soundtrack favorites. Veteran music educator Tom Musel returns as band director.

The first concert of the season is Sunday, June 2 at 2 p.m. As in past years, that event will also feature a classic car show in the park. Owners of vintage vehicles are invited to bring their cars to show off, with no registration necessary.

The municipal band performs each Sunday during June and into the first week of July, at 2 p.m., with the exception of a Kids’ Day Show on Sunday, June 9, starting at 3 p.m. so residents can enjoy both events. Also, the band performs on the first night of the Star Spangled Spectacular each year. This July 3, the band will perform a show of patriotic music in coordination with the Spectacular’s Patriotic Ceremony, with music starting at 5:45 p.m. as the band opens for the popular group The Pork Tornadoes. The final show of the municipal band season will be July 7 at 2 p.m.

Everyone is invited to come enjoy the shows, which are always free of charge. Additional seating has been added at the bandshell, but guests may want to bring a lawn chair or a blanket to find a viewing location of their choice. The band also welcomes new members, including high school and college age musicians. Rehearsals begin May 28.
