[ARCHIVED] IMPORTANT WATER CONSERVATION UPDATE: No lawn watering through Aug. 4

Mandatory (1)

The City of Storm Lake has made adjustments to its Mandatory Water Conservation measures after one of the City’s water wells failed, temporarily impacting water supply. While efforts are underway to repair Well 11, a new City well being completed in Frank Starr Park will be put into service ahead of schedule, temporarily using a generator.

There will be no lawn watering with City water allowed through Sunday, Aug. 4. At that time, the situation will be re-evaluated. Conserving water will ensure that there is enough supply for all users, plus a reserve in the event of a firefighting need.

Other conservation measures remain in place, including:

  • CAR WASHING - Residential car washing will be allowed on Saturdays and Sundays. Residents are still encouraged to wash vehicles in a way so that water is not wasted running into storm sewers.
  • POWER WASHING - Business and home power washing will be permitted only on Saturdays and Sundays. Power washing on weekdays may be done only with City permission. Call 712-732-8000 for more information.
  • POOLS AND SAUNAS - Swimming pools can be filled or re-filled only on Saturdays or Sundays. Water can be added to a pool to replace evaporation loss as needed.
  • CLEANING CONCRETE - Use of water to clean driveways and sidewalks should continue to be avoided. Use a broom or blower to clean concrete areas.

Residents are encouraged to conserve water in household use whenever possible, such as taking short showers, and running laundry washers and dishwashers with full loads.
