Storm Lake Mayor Mike Porsch will not run for re-election in the City election this November. Mayor Porsch has served the community for 16 years, first as a City Council member and later in two terms as Mayor.
“It’s been an honor and a privilege to serve and represent the community I’ve called home for over 50 years,” Mayor Porsch said.
“It was an extremely difficult decision to make because I care deeply for our community, but it’s time to see what life’s next chapter will bring,” he said. “I plan to remain committed and involved in our awesome community. I hope to continue my involvement with the Hometown Pride initiative and the development of the Storm Lake Nature Area.”
Mayor Porsch said he first sought a seat on the City Council 16 years ago in hopes of giving back to the community that had provided him with many opportunities and an ideal place to raise a family. “I end this term as mayor hoping that I have accomplished that goal. I am particularly proud of our ‘Storm Lake Proud’ initiative and the beautification and volunteer mindset it has created.”
He reflects that he will most miss the people he has had the opportunity to work beside. “I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to serve with City Manager Navratil and the entire administrative team, our City workers, Chief Cole and the Police Department, our Fire Department, and the council members past and present. We are fortunate to have such dedicated people moving our community forward.”
The mayor’s seat will be up for election on the November 4 City/School election ballot.
