[ARCHIVED] Iowa DOT Launches 511 Mobile App

AMES, Iowa – July 2, 2012 – Information and infrastructure go hand-in-hand at the Iowa Department of Transportation, literally. Now, you can get real-time traveler information delivered right into your hands via the Iowa DOT’s new “Iowa 511” mobile app.

Just in time for the busy Fourth of July holiday, the Iowa DOT has released the Android version of its new app. Get it today by searching for "Iowa 511" in Android Google Play. (The iPhone version will be coming soon through the Apple Store.)

Sinclair Stolle, the Iowa DOT’s traveler information program engineer, said, “We are very pleased to be able to bring this app to the public. The ability to get traveler information on your smartphone makes it so convenient for motorists.”

The Iowa 511 app provides statewide, real-time traffic information. Features include:
• A zoomable, scrollable map-based display.
• Current traffic speeds and closed-circuit television (CCTV) traffic camera images in six metro areas (Council Bluffs, Des Moines,
Iowa City/Cedar Rapids, Quad Cities, Sioux City, and Waterloo/Cedar Falls).
• Electronic roadway sign messages.

The Iowa 511 app reports information for interstates, U.S. routes and state highways in Iowa. It does not include information for county roads or city streets.

Your feedback about the 511 app is valued. Email your suggestions, questions or information about any bugs to 511feedback@dot.iowa.gov.
