Storm Lake Goes to Mandatory Water Conservation Beginning Monday, September 3rd
Beginning Monday, September 3rd, 2012 all users of the City of Storm Lake water system will be under mandatory water conservation measures.
During this time users will NOT be allowed to water lawns, plants, and other outdoor water uses between the hours of 8AM and 8PM.
Residents may water plants after 8PM but must be finished with outdoor water use by 8AM the following morning.
This water restriction includes the Cities of Lakeside and Truesdale, Iowa along with the unincorporated areas served by the City of Storm Lake water including Lake Creek, Casino Beach, Stony Point, and South Shore.
Water usage during the drought has continued to increase even after the City asked residents and businesses for voluntary reductions.
The increased demand has caused the water treatment plant to utilize its well fields for longer periods of time causing them to struggle to replenish and causing the plant to utilize deeper wells which require more treatment.
Businesses and homeowners with automatic sprinkler systems that run on timers are asked to check their timers and make the necessary adjustments to ensure that water does NOT occur during the restricted times between 8AM and 8PM.
The City of Storm Lake appreciates the cooperation of the community in helping to protect and ensure that we have a continued quality water supply to provide our users.
Questions regarding this water conservation program can be directed to the City of Storm Lake by email at cityhall@stormlake.org or by phone at 712-732-8000.
